We just returned from a trip to the Tarantula Arms bar where we went to see our first burlesque show, Reverend Spooky LeStrange and Her Billion Dollar Baby Dolls. I’ve been interested in seeing a burlesque show for a long time. When I was younger, I watched a lot of old television shows which featured women stripping down to their “unmentionables” and inciting the usually all male audience with wolf howls and amorous gestures. So, when a few years ago I heard that burlesque was coming back, I could barely wait to see a show. However, due to conflicts of timing, each time a show was in town, I wasn’t able to go until now.
Before I get into the actual review of the show, I would like to tell you what a burlesque show typically includes for those of you who do not know. Dictionary.com describes burlesque as follows “A humorous and provocative stage show featuring slapstick humor, comic skits, bawdy songs, striptease acts, and a scantily clad female chorus.” In other words, if you think you’re going to see a lot of nudity at a burlesque show, you’re (almost always) dead wrong. The show is all about the tease, bringing the audience up to a climatic point, just to let them settle down again. The girls generally do not get naked, though many get down to pasties and panties, and they usually do not touch the audience but come close to it.
The show tonight was now different. Even though they were limited by a lower number of performers than usual, the girls still did a bang up job of putting on a good show. There were three girls tonight: Hellacious Honey, Natasha Fiore’, and the Reverend Spooky LeStrange. All three of the women were terrific at playing up the crowd and were very lovely. I should also mention that they do have an announcer who did a very good job keeping the crowd wound up between acts and girls. The play between him and Hellacious Honey was particularly amusing to watch.
Each of the girls had their own style and flare. Hellacious Honey was a true tease and very good at seduction. She looked great in a corset and fishnets and frilly panties, and when she bent over all I could think was how spankable her ass was. She had very good curves and played up her eyes well in the intimate setting. She always left the crowd wanting more.
Natasha Fiore’ came next during the first set. She was taller and petite and seemed to really enjoy what she was doing. She did a great impression of a French lady in the second act with an intricate black umbrella, corset, panties, and heels. It was a very convincing outfit and she was very skillful at taking it off.
Finally came Spooky herself. Her first act was the most moving in which she played a mermaid becoming human and trying to use her newfound legs. Her second act was more humorous in which she taking off clothes one piece at a time to get imaginary passing cars to pick her up to take her to Vegas. She was very talented at drawing the crowd into the story and keeping their attention.
Overall this was a very good experience. We stayed after the show and talked with Hellacious Honey and Spooky. They were both very nice and we are looking forward to seeing them again soon. We will most likely be attending their next performance on April 29th when we hope to be able to get to see the full show and report back here on it. Perhaps next time, I’ll be able to get some pictures to go along with the review.
